In October 2020, I started my PhD with the SuPAR research group under the supervision of Prof. Cedric Vuye and Prof. Steve Vanlanduit. The human auditory system is extraordinarily sensitive to even small air pressure changes from sound waves. We are basically “walking sound level meters”, as noise is a phenomenon sensed and evaluated by everybody. My PhD project explores not only the acoustic characteristics of road traffic and environmental noise, but how people perceive it. Like most human experiences, this is not a straightforward matter.
