After obtaining a Master’s degree in ‘Cellular and Genetic Engineering’, Ilke started a Ph.D. in the ‘Lab of Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology’ of Prof. Lebeer and Prof. Spacova in which she combines her interests in genetic engineering and human health. She focuses on genetic engineering of probiotic lactobacilli for biomedical applications as intranasal and vaginal vaccines. As such, she is committed to better understand the genetic engineering potential of these beneficial bacteria and develop new medical therapies to improve human health.
