I study the biogeochemical cycles of carbon, iron and sulfur in the past and present ocean using a research approach that combines field and experimental work with numerical modeling. Specific topics are the importance of burrowing fauna for functioning of the Earth System and the impact of anthropogenic activities on the coastal carbon cycle.
