Christoph Niessen is a researcher in comparative politics. He works on multi-level governance and democratic innovations. He studied the determinants of sub-state autonomy demands and statutes in Western Europe, and researched how deliberative democratic innovations are received by citizens and decision-makers. Christoph holds a PhD from the Universities of Louvain-la-Neuve and Namur, and an MA from Central European University. Previously, he worked at Leiden University and was a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute. He currently holds an FWO fellowship at the University of Antwerp.
