Over Peter Bursens

Welcome to my personal pages.

I studied Political Science and obtained my Ph.D. from the Universiteit Antwerpen in 1999. Since 2010 I'm professor of political science at the Departement of Political Science and member of the research group Politics and Public Governance.

I teach on the topics of European integration and multilevel political systems in the Bachelor in Political Science, the Master in Political Science and the Master in International Relations and Diplomacy, all hosted by the Departement of Political Science. I also teach courses at the Antwerp Management School and the Institute for Sustainable Development and Environment. More on this in the section on the course modules.

I have served as program director and vice-dean for education from 2012 tot 2018.

My research agenda focuses on European decision-making, Europeanization, federalism and democratic legitimacy of multi-level political systems. I'm senior member of the Politics and Public Governance Research Group (P&PG). My research is embedded in the GOVTRUST Centre of Excellence, which focuses on trust and distrust in multilevel settigs. Project outlines and publications can be found on the P&PG website.

I hold a Jean Monnet Chair  on 'skills teaching in European Union Studies', through which I develop simulation games and assessment tools for skill teaching in political science and European studies curricula.
