Department of Philosophy
Welcome to the Department of Philosophy of the University of Antwerp.
The story of the Antwerp Philosophy Department starts in 1965. In that year, UFSIA (Universitaire Faculteiten Sint-Ignatius Antwerpen) is established: a new university in Antwerp which sets up an Educational Programma in Philosophy affliliated to its Faculty of Arts and Philosophy. This programme becomes a full-fledged Philosophy Department in October 2003, when the University of Antwerp emerges out of three former Antwerp universities.
Since 2003, the Philosophy Department offers a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, a Master's degree in Philosophy and an Education Master's degree in Philosophy. Together with the Philosophy Departments of Ghent University and Vrije Universiteit Brussel, it also offers an internationally oriented Research Master's Programme in Philosophy.
The staff members and all other members of the Philosophy Department are affiliated to one of the department's three research centres: the Centre for Ethics, the Centre for European Philosophy and the Centre for Philosophical Psychology.
The Philosophy Department publishes a monthly Newsletter, organizes the Antwerp Philosophy Lectures, and supports the association of Antwerp Philosophy Alumni and Minorities and Philosophy.
The department of philosophy is member of the Flemish Network for Contemporary Philosophy Education and of the Flemish initiative group Month of Philosophy.
Lots to discover!
