Activities
Visit of the Palace of Justice
Autumn semester
At the start of the academic year, the new intake of Master of Laws and exchange students visit the Palace of Justice in Antwerp. The program varies slightly each year, but a recent visit included:
- An introduction to the Belgian legal system and a guided tour of the building by honorary lawyer Bob Raets.
- A reception by Jo De Meester, Vice-President of the Bar Association of the Province of Antwerp, who explained the role of the Bar.
- A meeting with public prosecutor Sanne Raats, who provided insights into her work, discussed common criminal cases in Antwerp, and answered students' questions about the Belgian criminal law system.
The visit concludes with a lunch at FOMUcafé, offering students a chance to connect in an informal setting.
Visit of the European Parliament
Spring semester
Each year, Master of Laws and exchange students have the opportunity to visit the European Parliament in Brussels. During the most recent visit, students participated in a guided tour of the iconic hemicycle, where European Parliamentarians debate and vote on legislation. The tour provides an overview of the legislative procedures, the Parliament's role and powers, and its evolution as a key player in the European Union's decision-making process.
Semester reception
Autumn and spring semester
Each semester, we host at least one informal reception for incoming exchange students. This gathering provides an excellent opportunity for everyone to become better acquainted and for students to address any remaining questions they may have for the International Office Law.
