Prof. Katharina Boele-Woelki (2016)

The Faculty of Law will be honouring Professor Katharina Boele-Woelki, rector of the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg (Germany). She is Europe’s most prominent professor of international family law and is among the best in the world in her field. Boele-Woelki was the first to demonstrate that family law – traditionally studied from a national point of view – could also be approached from an international perspective.

Prof. Petros C. Mavroidis is professor at the European University Institute, the University of Neuchâtel and the Columbia Law School. He is a renowned expert in economic law.

Mr. Geert Corstens received an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Law. He is President of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, the highest court in the Netherlands. Corstens is an internationally renowned expert in the fields of criminal procedure, criminal law and judicial organisation.

Prof. Robert Alexy is professor at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität in Kiel, Germany. He is an international expert in the fields of public law, law theory and human rights. Alexy is one of the most prominent contemporary constitutionalists and law theorists, and has worked with dedication on human rights and distributive justice.

Prof Hugh G. Beale is professor of Law at the University of Warwick (UK). He is a law commissioner at the Law Commission for England and Wales, which is responsible for the revision of common law. Beale has made important contributions to the improvement of contract law and to the development of a European common framework of reference in that area.
