Sustainability

The Faculty of Social Sciences is committed to sustainability, both in its own operations and in teaching and research. In doing so, we align ourselves with university policy on this theme, which we intend to translate into concrete actions.

In 2022, the faculty decided to make sustainability a permanent focus of faculty policy. Sustainable choices are made both in purchasing policy and in daily operations.

As a first concrete measure, it was decided to prohibit short-haul flights for trips paid for on the faculty budget when a smooth connection by bus or train is possible, and to make CO2 offsetting mandatory when flights are nonetheless booked.

University policies

Sustainability is one of UAntwerpen's strategic policy themes.

Within the Climate Team, students, researchers and technical staff work together to make the University of Antwerp climate neutral as soon as possible.

Greenoffice is a sustainability network in which students play a central role.

Through Greenimpact, they encourage staff and students to make a difference themselves.

Faculty initiatives

The Faculty of Social Sciences is actively involved in IMDO, the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development, which brings together teaching and research expertise on this theme.

In terms of teaching, the faculty is involved in the Master of Environmental Science and the Master of Safety Sciences, as well as a number of university-wide interdisciplinary courses on the theme: Sustainability and Climate Change.

The Faculty also established a Green Team to inform faculty policy around sustainability and climate change.
