Laboratory Animal Science
As part of their PhD or professional job researchers may need to run animal experiments. This is only possible when you have a certificate that states you have the know-how and are up to date with, amongst others, the legal requirements.
The University of Antwerp offers 3 FELASA-accredited courses that provide you with a license from the Flemish and Wallon region:
- Function B course during Spring semester for (post)graduate students, PhD students, postdocs or professionals
- Summer school Laboratory Animal Sciences - Function B during Summer for PhD students, postdocs or professionals
- Function AC course - Rodents and Function AC course - Fish during the Autumn semester for (post)graduate students, PhD students, postdocs or professionals (can only be followed in case you have a Function B, Category B, or Category C license)
The Function B courses will give you a Category B license (actieve deelnemer). In case you have a degree in Biology or Veterinary Medicine, these courses will give you a Category C license (proefleider). You will also receive a Category C license (proefleider) if you follow the Function B and Function AC course.
