In 2016 the Department of Pharmacutical Sciences of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences has chosen to honour Professor Olaf Drummer. Promotor was Professor Hugo Neels of the Toxicological Centre.
Olaf Drummer is an Australian forensic pharmacologist and toxicologist. For more than 30 years he has conducted important research into opiates and sudden death, the toxicology of benzodiazepines, drug driving and the causes of drug-related deaths. He is giving talks on a regular basis and already testified as an expert in more than 250 cases.
Olaf Drummer is Deputy Director of the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine and Head and Professor of the Department of Forensic Medicine at the Monash University. He submitted more than 200 peer reviewed scientific papers and is lead author and initiator of the reference work The forensic Pharmacology of Drugs of Abuse. He is member and founder of several professional societies, including the prestigious The International Association of Forensic Toxicologists (TIAFT).
