We have boundless respect for each others boundaries
At UAntwerp, we work together in and towards a safe work and study environment. Diversity among students and staff enriches our organisational culture, and everyone is entitled to equal opportunities. Free speech and academic freedom go hand in hand with respectful treatment of others. Therefore, our students and staff conform to our code of conduct in order to create a safe work and study environment where there is no place for inappropriate or trangressive behaviour.
What is inappropriate behaviour?
Inappropriate (or transgressive) behaviour includes any form of unwanted behaviour that crosses your personal boundaries. It's therefore personal, subjective and different for everyone. What is unacceptable to one person may be acceptable to another. Jokes that feel more like bullying? An unpleasant touch? Feeling discriminated against? If it doesn't feel right, you are allowed to call each other to account.

Who to turn to?
Even if it is difficult to talk about an unpleasant experience or inappropriate behaviour, it is important to share your concerns. The same is true in case you witness or suspect transgressive behaviour between fellow students and/or staff members.
Confidential counsellors for employees, students and PhD students
At UAntwerp, confidential counsellors are available for students, staff and PhD students. They can lend a listening ear and offer advice, information, mediation or referral if additional help is needed.
A conversation with a counsellor is strictly confidential, because they are bound by professional confidentiality. They may not discuss with others what you tell them, unless you give them explicit permission to do so.
