The University of Antwerp is part of the European alliance Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE). YUFE is formed by ten young research-intensive universities and two non-academic partners, working together as an inclusive European university. They will bring forth well-rounded experts who can face Europe’s challenges of tomorrow.
Considering our strategic international position, the University of Antwerp is part of two international academic networks, each with a unique goal:
- The Young European Research Universities Network (Yerun) strives to create broader support for young universities in European discussions and to develop innovative initiatives around open science, research and education.
- The Utrecht Network wants to share and expand her expertise on internationalisation and to set up mobilities with universities within and outside of Europe.
Yerun
Yerun
Yerun stands for Young European Research Universities Network. The network was set up at the end of 2015 by its founding members the Autonomous University of Madrid, the University of Antwerp and Maastricht University. Yerun consists of 23 member universities. Its aim is to give a voice to young research universities in European and other international forums alongside more established universities. The network is committed to close cooperation in the areas of teaching, research and innovation.The Yerun strategy establishes 3 focus areas:
- Talent Development
- Open Culture of Excellence
- Responsible & Engaged Universities
Eleven Yerun partners got involved in a European Universities Initiative following the first EU call in February 2019. Meanwhile, there are already 41 alliances in which a total of 13 Yerun partners participate. UAntwerp is part of the Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE) alliance, which was selected with a top score of 97%.

Utrecht Network
Utrecht Network
The Utrecht Network is a network of European universities whose collaboration centres on internationalisation in the broadest sense of the word. The partners are committed to raising the profiles of its members internationally as well as reinforcing the cohesion of the group. Through active participation, the member universities are encouraged to develop joint activities that lead to the further internationalisation of the institutions and their teaching. Experience and expertise acquired nationally and internationally are shared in order to improve the management of European and international projects, exchanges, university services and organisation.
The network takes a global approach, aiming to build bridges between cultures by developing exchange plans with partners on other continents.
The network's six main goals are to:
- promote internationalisation
- be open to new forms of cooperation
- respond to the European higher education policy actively
- collaborate effectively within the network
- improve the quality of internationalisation processes
- raise the network’s profile and organise global cooperation.
