History

For more than 150 years, the University of Antwerp has built up extensive expertise in the fields of transport, maritime and air transport management. Wishing to make this expertise available through high-quality educational programmes, the University of Antwerp founded the Institute of Transport and Maritime Management Antwerp (ITMMA) in 1996. In September 2014, ITMMA’s Master programmes were incorporated in the university’s Faculty of Applied Economics. This close cooperation with the faculty has resulted in an enhanced programme portfolio and new avenues of international experience.

The Centre for Maritime and Air Transport Management (C-MAT) was officially launched in March 2015. C-MAT offers an enhanced Master programme based on research and in-the-field industry experience as a premier provider of advanced education in Europe. The programme offers a forum in which students receive expert guidance on a variety of maritime, port and air transport management and economic issues.

As of the academic year 2020-2021, the Faculty of Business and Economics joined forces with the Antwerp Management School in an international Center of Excellence on transport and logistics.  C-MAT continues to underpin the program with internationally recognized academic knowledge. Introducing this program into the highly internationally oriented Master after Master portfolio of AMS signifies the next step in C-MAT’s expansion.

The integration provides the perfect combination of academic research and business practice, and is enabled by a shared vision on sustainability, personal development and societal consciousness. In this way we can continue to deliver future leaders and thinkers in supply chain, transportation and logistics.
