This course will refresh your memory of the most common academic vocabulary mistakes to avoid, such as using everyday informal words instead of their formal equivalents. You'll also learn about frequently confused words and mistranslations, and receive tips and tricks for memorising and mastering the new words you come across.

The topics include:
- the right register: formal versus informal language use (e.g. get versus acquire)
- (near-)synonyms (e.g. however and nevertheless)
- vocabulary used in papers, articles, presentations and lectures (e.g. to ascertain)
- typical collocations (e.g. a classic example of)
Evaluation
There is no test at the end of the course. We can issue a certificate of attendance on request.
