Oh no, yet another course and I'm already so busy!
Classes take place live online so you can take part from any campus, from your dorm or study room and even from abroad. The course has 10 two-hour lessons with your language teacher. Half the classes are scheduled during the Easter holiday, the other half after. If you can’t attend a class, a recording means that you don't miss anything covered.
A live online course. Does that mean I learn to speak?
Of course! In these lessons, the focus is on interaction: understanding and speaking. Here’s how we do it:
- Allow about two hours to explore certain material beforehand and prepare for the class activities; this way you’ll step into the lesson warmed up and ready to start.
- During the lesson you’ll actively and interactively learn together with your language teacher and your fellow students. Classes last two hours and they fly by.
- After that, allow two hours for additional practice. You can plan these study hours when it suits you, so you set your own pace to study.
In short, the time you put in when preparing will mean you’ll be ready to take part in the lesson activities. Through the follow-up study after class, you ensure the new knowledge gets stuck in your mind. This way, you’ll quickly learn to speak and understand Spanish.
Learning Spanish through self-study, that's not for me.
Indeed, self-study is often difficult to keep up, and learning (to speak) Spanish on your own is quite a challenge. Learning a new language is best done with others; then it becomes really enjoyable. Better still, in this course your language teacher will map out a learning path for you, encourage you, get you working, provide you with tips and tricks, give you feedback and by doing so make sure you’re not alone and that you keep going.
I’m learning Spanish with an app, so it should work out fine.
It’s true that an app can be fun and quite addictive, but it doesn’t teach you to speak Spanish. So, combine the app exercises with the set speaking tasks you get during the Linguapolis course. What’s more, you’ll get instructional videos during the course via the Linguapolis learning platform, clearly explaining grammar or vocabulary. You practise using guided self-study and digital exercises supplemented in class by interactive assignments that challenge you to speak Spanish. Even after the course, you’ll have access to all the material, videos and exercises for several months, because la práctica hace al maestro!
I only want to learn Spanish if I can really use it.
Yes, that goes without saying. This is why the topics are adapted to what you really need. You don't learn about Spanish, but you learn to use and understand Spanish in situations where you find yourself abroad. For instance, you might need to understand what your landlord says or be able to ask for something at the pharmacy or supermarket. You’ll feel at home sooner if you can understand all kinds of signs and can manage in basic conversations. Moreover, the course is taught by a Spanish language teacher who has personally experienced Erasmus, in Antwerp. They know exactly what you need to make your learning experience a success.
What exactly will I be able do after the course?
You learn to understand and speak Spanish. Writing isn’t covered.
- I’ll be able to communicate with Spanish-speaking students.
- I’ll be able to ask for information in the supermarket or on the street.
- I’ll be able to talk about myself and ask for information from others.
- I’ll be able to understand signs on the street and recognise where I am.
- I’ll be able to use words that are important in a study context.
