What will you be able to do after the year-long Swahili 1 course?
You will learn to hold conversations in everyday situations using practical vocabulary and expressions. With your knowledge of Swahili, you can easily familiarise yourself with other Bantu languages.
1. You can communicate with other Swahili speakers. Besides acquiring the necessary ‘building blocks’, you will also learn the necessary vocabulary and grammar, and the necessary strategies to communicate successfully with limited proficiency in the language.
2. You can use the language in authentic language situations: going to the shop, asking for directions, haggling on the street, telling the time, ordering something at a restaurant, booking a hotel room...
3. You can share information about yourself and request information from others about family and professional life, your daily routine, ordering something at a café, going to the market, etc.
The objectives listed above are achieved by keeping in mind the culture and societies in which the language is spoken.
