The French government issues a number of internationally recognised qualifications in French language proficiency. The exams can be taken at the various proficiency levels described in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The most important exams are:
- DELF (Diplôme d'études en langue française) and DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française)
- DFP (Diplôme du français professionnel), organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Paris.
- TCF (Tests de connaissance du français).
