Professor Sara Vicca (University of Antwerp) investigates carbon cycling in terrestrial ecosystems such as forests and grasslands. Her focus is on ecosystem-climate interactions and  nature-based methods of removing CO₂ from the atmosphere. 

Professor Filip Meysman (University of Antwerp) investigates the microbial ecology of natural seafloor environments and researches how marine sediments can be used to sequester CO₂ from the atmosphere.

Karel Van Acker is professor of sustainable materials management at KU Leuven. His research focuses on the development of strategies to realize the circular economy and on sustainability assessments of materials and their life cycle.
