Forming engineers in the current technological context requires a solid fundamental, basic and applied research support as well as a strong interaction with industrial and academic partners.
In the Department of Bioscience Engineering at the University of Antwerp, the development of scientific research and education happens in close cooperation with various institutions and universities.
The research is conducted in three major research groups:
- "Antwerp engineering, photoelectrochemistry & sensing (A-PECS)" researches the development of sustainable sensor, analysis, and reactor technologies for energy, environment, and diagnostics through fundamental and applied research, in collaboration with academia, industry, and society.
- "Laboratory of Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology (LAMB)" focuses on improving urban health and the environment through cell and gene biotechnology, with an emphasis on the microbiome, probiotics, and the utilization of advanced microbiological and molecular techniques.
- "Biobased Sustainability Engineering (SUSTAIN)" develops environmental and sustainable technologies for climate mitigation and sustainable food production, with an emphasis on ecosystem services and bio-based solutions for global environmental challenges.
