Doing a PhD at the Faculty of Science is strongly related with the research in each Department. Candidates are expected to extensively broaden their general and in particular their specialist knowledge in their chosen field of research. Conducting independent research is essential. A PhD can be done in either English or Dutch.

Antwerp Doctoral School

The Antwerp Doctoral School helps PhD students complete the PhD process successfully and prepares them for their careers by means of tailor-made doctoral programmes. To this end, the Antwerp Doctoral School organises a mandatory doctoral study programme which PhD students put together themselves depending on their needs. PhD students can choose from a wide range of courses and also incorporate research-related activities into the doctoral study programme.

A wide range of courses and training possibilities are offered, all taught by specialized teachers:

• Communication, presentation, leadership, mind mapping, project management etc.
• Academic writing and academic presentation skills...
• ICT classes
• ...

An additional fund of 1500 euro is provided to participate in other programme related trainings or congresses in both Belgium and abroad and/or to organize scientific activities such as congresses or lectures.
