Step into the world of the Master of Laws (LL.M), an exciting English-taught master programme that opens doors to a broad legal landscape. The Faculty of Law has been offering this two-year master programme since 2016. Set up as a language variant of the Dutch-taught master degree, it contributes to the internationalisation of the Faculty of Law while also offering a unique opportunity for Flemish students to immerse themselves in an international learning environment. Many of the courses are open to LL.M students, incoming exchange students and students from the Dutch-taught master programme. The LL.M programme is the only English-taught initial master in law in Belgium, which also ensures an influx from Wallonia and Brussels.
The structure runs parallel to the Dutch-taught master degree, which is efficient in terms of administration, but this also has a caveat. While some of those enrolled were previously students at UAntwerp and are therefore familiar with our way of working, there is also a large group of first-timers who are new to our university.
The focus in the programme is on knowledge and skills, based on a strong competence-oriented education approach. Learning is brought to life in the Legal Clinic, where students collaborate with leading practical experts, ranging from law firms to NGOs and government services. The LL.M also focuses on international skills and on collaboration with select partner universities, where students can further explore their thesis modules. The faculty also organises fascinating research projects, summer schools and other collaborative initiatives with these partner institutions.
