Global Engagement | Film Screening | Discussion
26 March | 18:30-21:00
Palestinian doctor Izzeldin Abuelaish wrote a best-selling book in 2011 about his life in Gaza and the deaths of three of his daughters after an Israeli shell hit their bedroom in 2009, during the first Gaza war. The book's subtitle, “A Gaza Doctor's Journey on the Road to Peace and Human Dignity,” already indicates that he is following a different path in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, even after his personal tragedy. He does not want to hate, nor does he seek revenge. He describes his story and examines the history of the conflict while also calling for peace - “violence breeds violence and breeds more hatred.”
Abuelaish grew up in a Gaza refugee camp and studied medicine in Cairo, London and at Harvard. In 2009, he worked as a doctor in an Israeli hospital (in the maternity ward). Back then he was already involved in the peace movement and publicly advocated for coexistence between Palestinians and Israelis.
The film will be followed by a short discussion for those who are interested.
