AYO | Lecture | Guy Vanthemsche

25 March | 19:00 - 21:45

Language Dutch

AYO cordially invites you to a fascinating academic guest lecture by Prof Guy Vanthemsche, professor emeritus of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The lecture will focus on the colonial history of Congo, from the period under Leopold II to independence under Lumumba. At the same time, this lecture will show that colonialism still leaves its mark today. For example, the Court of Appeal recently condemned the Belgian state for the abduction of Metish children in Congo, an act qualified as a ‘crime against humanity’. This underlines how the colonial past still permeates our society.

We hope to welcome you for an evening of insights and reflection. Don't miss this unique opportunity to learn more about a crucial chapter in our shared history!

This event is organised by AYO; an interdisciplinary student association dedicated to the personal and academic development of Afro-Belgian students within AUHA's higher education institutions.
