The Labour Law Association – Jurisdiction Antwerp (VVA vzw) is a partnership between the Research Unit Social Competition and Law of the University of Antwerp, the magistrature, the Bar, and labour lawyers  from trade and industry and the social organizations. The VVA focuses on supplmentary training and refresher courses on labour law and social security law. This way the association generates new academic research and reflection.

The VVA was set up in 1987 as a non-profit organization. The VVA’s objective is the study of labour law. What’s more, the successful  organization of the series "Actuele problemen van het Arbeidsrecht" (Current Labour Law Issues) in 1984 and 1987, an initiative of the Social Law Unit of the University of Antwerp in collaboration with the  magistrature and the Bar, actually prompted the establishment of this non-profit organization.
By organizing, workshops and scientific meetings, by stimulating scientific research and by (co)publishing scientific works the VVA wants to be a meeting point for legal professionals committed to the study of labour law. At the international level the association distinguished itself by its comparative collaboration with the Nederlandse Vereniging voor Arbeidsrecht (Dutch Association for Labour Law). 

Right from the start the VVA enjoyed the membership of numerous magistrates, lawyers and academics. The VVA also succeeded in reaching labour law experts with a different professional background. Corportate lawyers, lawyers working for the Federal Public Service Labour and Employment, for social secretariats and for employee and employer organizations became members.   
The VVA has some 200 members of whom 50 or so are also effective members as well as active members of the Plenary Meeting.  As a result there is a variety of perspectives.  All these parties are also represented in the Executive Board.
