All employees who have children and pay social security contributions receive child benefits.
Since 1 January 2019, this child benefit system is called the ‘Groeipakket’ (‘growth package’). You can find information on the Pintra webpage of the HR Department.
The ‘Groeipakket’ consists of different types of financial support:
- The basic amount: a fixed monthly amount.
- The age supplement: a monthly bonus that is added to the basic amount. You begin to receive the first supplement when your child turns 6 and the amount increases further when he or she turns 12 and 18.
- The school bonus: an amount received in August to help pay for school costs. This will also increase as your child grows older.
- Possible supplements are the care supplement, the social supplement and the participation supplement
In general, the father applies for the child benefits and the mother receives them.
Other rules may apply to international staff who pay social security contributions in another European country. Please contact the International Staff Office for more information about allowances in the case of cross-border employment or employment in another country.
