The Department of Biomedical Sciences in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences is looking for a full-time (100%) postdoctoral scientist in the field of innate immunity and cell death signaling.

Position

  • You will be in charge of a research project investigating how post-translational regulation of the signalling pathways leading to pyroptosis and other types of cell death modulate innate immune responses in health and disease.
  • You will assist in other ongoing research projects in the Cell Death Signaling lab, all of which are related to investigating the role of cell death in innate immune responses.
  • You will be encouraged to attract external funding to support your research.
  • You will assist in the supervision of PhD students and other team members.
  • You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
  • You will carry out a limited number of teaching support tasks such as guidance of Bachelor and Master students.

Profile

  • You hold a PhD in Molecular Biology, Immunology or related fields (or you will have obtained it by the time you start work).
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
  • Since the project involves in vivo research using laboratory mice it is essential to have a FELASA C certificate or an equivalent diploma that allows working with laboratory animals in Belgium. Prior laboratory experience with mouse research is required.
  • A keen interest and prior research experiences in the fields of inflammation, immunology, and/or cell death are required.
  • Prior experiences in laboratory techniques for analysing immune responses or cell death responses are recommended.
  • Prior experiences with cell culture of primary murine and/or human cells are recommended.
  • Prior experiences in analysing RNA sequencing or other large datasets are recommended.
  • You can speak and write fluently in English.
  • You have published at least one first author paper in a high impact peer-reviewed A1 journal.

What we offer

  • We offer a full-time appointment as a postdoctoral researcher for a period of three years.
  • The planned start date is flexible but not later than January 1st 2025.
  • Your monthly salary is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for postdoctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
  • You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
  • You will do most of your work at the Campus Drie Eiken in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
