Shape the Future - University of Antwerp

For the recently established Campus Development Office within the Department of Research Innovation and Valorisation Antwerp (RIVA), we are looking for a full-time (100%) Staff Member Knowledge Valorisation, Innovation and Entrepreneurship with a particular focus on sustainability and internationalisation. Your efforts will focus on two main pillars:

  1. Capacity Building in Knowledge Valorisation within the Horizon Europe Twinning Project TWIN2SUSTAIN:
    • The University of Cyprus coordinates this European project, and the University of Antwerp is a partner. The project focuses on the socio-economic aspects of sustainable development, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Cyprus is a hotspot for climate change; from RIVA, we take on the activities related to knowledge valorisation, innovation, and entrepreneurship. We share know-how and best practices in close collaboration with scientific experts from the Institute for Environment and Sustainable Development (IMDO).
  2. Representation of the University of Antwerp within Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE): YUFE is a European university alliance, of which UAntwerp is a co-founder; within the fields of knowledge valorisation, (student) entrepreneurship, and innovation, you contribute to achieving the ambitions of the YUFE alliance.

Role:

The role includes, among other tasks, the following assignments:

  • You make an essential contribution to the TWIN2SUSTAIN project by developing an action plan for establishing a Sustainable Development Hub in Cyprus. Guided by the head of the Campus Development Office, you work closely with colleagues from IMDO and international partners such as the University of Cyprus (UCY), UNU-MERIT (University of Maastricht), and stakeholders.
  • You contribute to developing strategies, sharing good practices, and performing activities aimed at promoting sustainable development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and stakeholder engagement to create impact.
  • You explore how the SDGs can be translated into concrete applications to promote greater sustainability, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
  • You actively participate in internal and external YUFE meetings in the field of Knowledge Valorisation, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation.
  • You work with YUFE colleagues on existing and new programs and activities related to Knowledge Valorisation, entrepreneurship, and innovation, such as the YUFE Incubation programme, the YUFE Accelerator programme, and the YUFE Knowledge Valorisation Expert Network. You facilitate co-creation workshops and sessions with citizens and stakeholders to gather and test ideas and solutions for sustainable development and develop Challenge-Based initiatives.
  • In achieving the objectives, you consider the provided instructions and regulations.

Profile

  • You hold a master’s degree or equivalent competencies through experience.
  • You have knowledge of the principles of sustainable development and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Experience in enhancing organisational capacity to effectively valorise and implement knowledge is an advantage.
  • Expertise in translating research results into social and economic value (knowledge valorisation) is also an advantage.
  • You can collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, from academic partners and businesses to local communities.
  • You have an open attitude, are a connecting team player, quality-oriented, honest, creative, and solution-oriented.
  • You are proficient in Microsoft 365.
  • A good command of spoken and written English is essential; starting with only a basic knowledge of Dutch is possible.
  • You work in a customer-friendly, honest, creative, quality-oriented, and collaborative manner.
  • You can plan, organise, and work independently well. You can manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously (project management skills).
  • You are highly organised with attention to detail and the ability to deliver results on time.

Offer

  • We offer you a fixed-term employment contract, with the desired start date of 1 October 2024 until 30 September 2026 (with the possibility of extension).
  • You will receive a gross monthly salary within the grade range 7.1-9.1 of the Administrative and Technical Personnel salary scales. Your starting grade (usually grade 7.1) depends on your relevant professional experience. For a part-time appointment, your salary will be calculated pro-rata based on the employment percentage.
  • You receive meal vouchers, eco vouchers, an internet connectivity allowance, a group insurance, an income protection insurance, and a bicycle allowance or full reimbursement of your commuting costs with public transport.
  • You can work according to a flexible working hours scheme.
  • You have 40 days of holiday and a week of collective closure between Christmas and New Year.
  • You will mainly work at Campus Middelheim, in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
