A DOI is an important tool in scientific communication. It facilitaties identifying and retrieving content. The library has a membership with Crossref, which not only grants a DOI but also gives greater visibility to the content.
Dissertations
The library ensures that all PhD theses (dissertations) from the UAntwerp are assigned a DOI. This assignment and uploading the metadata to Crossref is completely free for researchers at the University of Antwerp as it is financed by the library.
It is therefore no longer necessary to apply for an ISBN number. This number serves to simplify the distribution of publications between publishers and bookstores, but a doctoral thesis is not commercialized or distributed through trade channels by the University of Antwerp. An ISBN number therefore does not add value to the thesis.
