UAntwerp collection
In the reading room
Books and magazines in the reading rooms can be consulted freely.
Books from another campus library can be sent to your campus library, free of charge.
Which works can you request or reserve?
You can request books and magazines in the catalogue via the red button 'document request'. This is possible in the following cases:
- A large part of our collection is in the closed stacks to be requested. Stack books can be delivered to a campus library of your choice. Magazines remain in their campus library, where you can consult, copy and scan them on site.
- Works that are currently on loan (both from the reading room and the closed stacks) can be reserved.
- Books from another campus library can be sent to your campus library free of charge.
You will be notified by e-mail as soon as the requested or reserved book or magazine is ready. You can find an overview of your requests via My Library.
Can't find something in our collection?
If an article or book is not available in our collection, we will find it for you in another library. This is a paying service.
Other library collections
If an article or book is not available in our university library, we will find it for you in another library. This service is called ILL or interlibrary loan.
Students and staff of the University of Antwerp can make use of this service. For external users, this service is also available after registration in the library.
Students and staff of colleges for higher education and universities apply for ILL requests at the library of their own institute.
Procedure
ILL requests can be submitted by means of the catalogue, the 'UAntwerp' button in a database, or a free request.
Catalogue
Search for the document in the catalogue. For journal articles search using the title of the journal and follow the instructions. Click the red Document Request button.
Link to full text in a database / via Libkey
If you found an article in a database, check via the 'UAntwerp' button if the article is electronically available. Or do a quick search using a unique identifier. Go to Libkey and enter a DOI or PMID.
If not, then first try the link to the catalogue (Holdings in University Antwerp catalogue) to see if a paper copy is available.
If no paper copy is available in the university library, submit an ILL request via the option Submit document request and follow the instructions .
Create new request
When a document cannot be found in our catalogues or databases, you can create and fill in a new request form via My Library Document Requests. You can create a new request for a book or a journal article.
Follow up and method of delivery
You will be informed by email about the status of your requests. You can also follow up on your requests on the library website in My Library.
Method of delivery for journal articles
Journal articles ordered by ILL are delivered electronically in PDF format. In order to read a document in PDF format you need Adobe Acrobat Reader. This software can be downloaded for free.
Method of delivery for books
Books ordered by ILL are delivered to the desk of your library (the main institute where you registered). Where you can collect them is communicated to you by email.
Exception: Books ordered by the faculty of Design Sciences will be delivered at the desk of the Stadscampus, not the library of Campus Mutsaard.
Loan period
ILL books ordered in other libraries (outside the University of Antwerp) are only available at the desk for a limited period.
The loan end date is fixed and starts from the moment the book arrives at the desk and you receive a message.
Sometimes only consultation in the reading room is allowed.
Renewing ILL books is not possible
