Afternoon seminar on heritage - 2 May 2018

Antwerp as a scientific knowledge center in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries

As from 2 May 2018 the exhibition 'Antwerp as a scientific knowledge center in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries' is on display in the exhibition room ‘In De Kijker’ of the Groenenborger Campus of the University of Antwerp. This exhibition reveals the long tradition of scientific research in Antwerp through scientific instruments from the former Gevaert archives and objects from both the Antwerp food control laboratory and the pharmaceutic laboratory Van Melckebeke.

At the occasion of the opening of the exibition, on 2 May, an afternoon seminar about heritage was held near the exhibition space. Participants were introduced to the functioning of Academic Heritage at the University of Antwerp and had the opportunity to visit the exhibition and exchange ideas with fellow heritage colleagues during the reception.

At the same time, the special issue ‘Kies voor erfgoed!’, (‘Choose heritage!’) of the journal Tijd-schrift was presented, in which twenty special Flemish heritage collections were put forward.
