DARK Breakfast at the GUM
Time: 10.00 am - 12.30 pm
Tickets: through the GUM website
This event will be in Dutch.
On the last Sunday morning of DARK WEEKends, GUM treats you to a delicious breakfast...with a dark touch. Over coffee - black, how else - and breakfast bites, researchers from SciFair and the Bias in History project will transport you back in time to the wonderful, spine-chilling world of science at the fairground.
SciFair consists of a multidisciplinary team of researchers and conducts innovative research on the role of itinerant showpeople in the dissemination of knowledge about scientific and technological progress in Western Europe between 1850 and 1914. Bias in History studies historical bias related to gender, age, race, and social class in three historical source corpora: magic lantern slides, police reports and illustrated children’s literature from 1800 to 1940. SciFair PhD researcher Gitte Samoy, associated PhD researcher Hannah Welslau (FWO) and Bias in History PhD researcher Eleonora Paklons will treat you to curiosities, ghosts, and technological marvels!
