On 31 March, the ‘Patrice Lumumba lecture hall’ was inaugurated as a tribute to the first prime minister of an independent Congo. Patrice Lumumba was murdered on 17 January 1961 – a murder that happened in collaboration with Belgians and the Belgian government was aware what was going on. We remember Lumumba as a prominent figure in our colonial history – a symbol of emancipation, respect, equality and human rights.
