Thursday February 9, 2017 at 20h
Institute of Jewish Studies, University of Antwerp
Prof. Leora Batnitzky (Princeton University), Prof. Ilana Pardes (Hebrew University of Jerusalem) and Prof. Vivian Liska (Institute of Jewish Studies, University of Antwerp)
The biblical book of Job is a central reference point for grappling with adversity, personal disasters, faith, and apostasy. Why does this book play such a prominent role in the project of modernity – from the Enlightenment to the present day – in art, theater, and literature, from Melville and Kafka through Joseph Roth and Philip Roth?
Leora Batnitzky and Ilana Pardes, the editors of the first volume in the series Perspectives on Jewish Texts and Contexts, discussed these questions with Vivian Liska, editor of the series, who also introduced the series as a whole.
