How can we build with the resources we already have? In an intense week in Trondheim, Norway, from 23-30 September, our 40 students from the 5 partner schools dismantled a small barn and designed and built a small orangery. It was an intriguing experience to practically explore the steps of harvesting building materials, analyzing and mapping the parts, developing a design and actually using the available components when building an actual new building. The building consists of large wooden frames made from reclaimed rood and ceiling beams, facades from the reclaimed wall boards, a roof with old corrugated metal sheets and a rammed earth wall from locally sourced ingredients.
Thanks to our wonderful clients Anders & Martin for having us on their extraordinary site and August Schmidt and Arnstein Gilberg from the NTNU Faculty of Architecture and Design for the excellent organization!
