Student associations are an important part of student life at our university. The University of Antwerp has many student associations that you can join. You can find out which student association suits you best via this website.
Students of specific courses, faculties or campuses have their own associations. There are also student associations that focus explicitly on common interests, shared experiences or sub-identities such as gender, ethnic-cultural background, life stance, etc. Meeting people with similar experiences, interests or shared identities can be a positive experience. In a nutshell, there is something for everyone.
All student associations help us be an inclusive university for all of our students. In addition, there are student associations that have a very explicit focus on the inclusion of students from minority backgrounds. Here are some examples:
Asian Student Association: for and by Asian students and/or those interested in Asian culture in Antwerp
AYO (African Youth Organisation): an interdisciplinary student association that focuses on students with African roots or anyone with an interest in Africa.
The Flamingo's: for LGBTQI+ students in Antwerp
Lilith Collectief: Antwerp's intersectional feminist student club
Mahara UAntwerpen: an Islamic-inspired network organization of students and alumni
Most importantly, as a student, you can consider what you are looking for in a student association. Are your needs focused on specific themes, socializing with fellow students in your faculty, or about sharing identity experiences? At UAntwerp there is a wide range of possibilities, and we hope that you will find the student association that best takes your fancy.
