The UAntwerp Diversity and Inclusion Policy Plan 2025–2030 aims to further structurally embed diversity and inclusion within the organization. This policy plan translates that ambition into concrete actions for the next five years. It builds on the many efforts already undertaken in the field of Diversity and Inclusion over the past years.
This plan is based on an inclusive and intersectional approach to D&I. As such, you will find few actions that focus specifically on individual diversity themes. Following the principle "inclusive where possible, tailored where necessary," the actions described aim to create a more inclusive organization that benefits everyone. At the same time, the plan explicitly acknowledges both visible and invisible differences, with particular attention to those tied to inequality mechanisms that are especially relevant within the university context. Within our diversity and inclusion policy, we focus primarily, though not exclusively, on gender, disability, lifestance, socio-economic diversity, LGBTQI+, ethnic-cultural diversity, and global engagement. On this website, you can also read more about theme-specific actions and initiatives.
Strategic Objectives
The new Diversity and Inclusion policy plan of the University of Antwerp focuses on seven strategic objectives (SDs) and corresponding actions that aim to make the university more inclusive for both students and staff.
SD1 – Inclusive University
Creates an inclusive online and offline environment where everyone feels at home and safe. This includes embedding D&I into the organizational culture and structure, improving accessible infrastructure, and promoting inclusive communication.
SD2 – Inclusive recruitment and graduation
Aims for a representative student population and equal opportunities for alumni in the labor market. Key actions include providing inclusive information for prospective students and inclusive career guidance.
SD3 – Inclusive student well-being (study progress)
Focuses on an inclusive learning and living environment, paying attention to the wellbeing of every student. Efforts are made to foster an inclusive culture and remove barriers within the learning environment.
SD4 – Inclusive teaching (study progress)
Strives to create a learning environment where all students feel at home and have equal opportunities to progress. This includes developing D&I competencies among lecturers and students, and enriching the curriculum with diverse perspectives.
SD5 – Inclusive Research
Promotes inclusive and ethical research practices, integrating D&I criteria at every stage of the research process. This also includes striving for diverse research teams and partnerships, with special attention to collaboration with the Global South.
SD6 – Inclusive human resources policy
Ensures an inclusive working environment where staff feel valued. The policy focuses on inclusive recruitment, selection, and career development, while supporting staff in acting responsively to diversity.
SD7 – Monitoring diversity and inclusion
Collects and analyzes data to better understand and improve the impact of the D&I policy. This is supported by data-driven policy-making, reporting, and academic research into the inclusion of underrepresented groups.
