Host organisation: University Hospital of Cologne (UHC), Germany
Supervisor: Prof Dr Philipp STEVEN
Brief biography: My name is Bao Tran (or Trần Ngọc Bảo, in Vietnamese). My BSc degree was in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science from Hanoi University of Pharmacy, Hanoi, Vietnam. I got a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance and Biotechnology (DT233, 2014-2015), Dublin Institute of Technology, Dublin, Ireland. My MSc dissertation submitted to DIT was about nanoparticles for antidiabetic drugs, and I had an internship (2016) about nanomedicines for anticancer treatment (combination therapy and target drug delivery) at Yeungnam University, South Korea. After MSc graduation, my experience is also on pharmaceutical research and development & quality assurance for commercial products when working in Vietnam, in which, I tried to highlight the concepts of Quality by Design and Design Space.
Now my work is on the dry eye disease and its related pathological conditions which are common in millions of patients. There are several unique approaches for drug development, and hopefully potential formulations will be obtained in the next 36 months.
