In this FWO/SBO-project FoodPhase (Next generation X-ray phase contrast imaging for food quality and process engineering), we propose a radical paradigm shift by enabling lab-based X-ray phase contrast analysis of food. Our proposal builds on three highly-innovative concepts for food process engineering and quality control:
- The development of versatile inline acquisition hardware and reconstruction methods for multi-contrast phase imaging,
- Multivariate and deep learningbased analysis methods and,
- Multiscale functional structure modelling, simulation and optimization of foods.
To facilitate valorisation and to obtain strategic industry advice during the project, a User Committee has been assembled. Semestrial meetings will be organized with all members of this Committee.
