The Fuatilia Maji project invests in building skills and knowledge:
- community monitors, i.e. selected citizens from within the communities where mapping of access, functionality and quality of water takes place
- students from Mzumbe University
- students from the Institute of Development Policy (IOB), Antwerp University

In a one week workshop, students from Mzumbe university and community monitors are trained to master a number of skills. Students learn:
- how to use mobile devices to collect survey data
- how to do water quality tests
- knowledge about (mapping) access, functionality and quality of water and the link to health
- scientific values and skills
- how to share the information about water access, functionality and quality of water and treatment with the citizens and water users
