1. Call
For research with a clear development and collaboration dimension, the University of Antwerp encourages budding academics to apply for the Small Research Projects research grant under the Global Minds programme.
Small Research Projects are embedded within the VLIR-UOS Global Minds programme, a five-year initiative aimed at allocating funds for university collaboration with the Global South, aligned with the SDG challenges and the global engagement strategy of the University of Antwerp. Academics engaging in new or existing research with a clear developmental and collaborative dimension may be eligible for funding support. The research may range from basic to applied and/or policy-relevant studies. Funding is provided for small-scale research projects with a budget of up to €10,000 per project. The official funding duration is one year from the project start date as specified, and must be used for research-related expenditures following the financial guidelines of VLIR-UOS.
Three different types of possible small research projects are envisaged:
Research in a country on the VLIR-UOS Global Minds list | Policy-relevant, impactful research project with field work/data generation in a country of the VLIR-UOS Global Minds list on a topic of local and/or global relevance, whether or not embedded in cooperation with Global South academics and/or institutional academic and non-academic partners.

Applications for SRP-GM can be made once annually exclusively through the Small Projects call within the BOF (specific criteria for application and a list of countries for cooperation, can be found in the call form and complement the BOF regulations). Only research projects submitted electronically and in English via Peoplesoft to BOF, and assessed by the BOF selection committee as 'Fundable – not funded', are eligible for consideration.
