Area-based measures in function of a climate-robust landscape based on the Open Space Plan Interfluvium
The region around Kortrijk and Zwevegem is one of the least green areas in Flanders. The planning area also faces a number of challenges such as erosion on the hill slopes, soil depletion, water management needs in the context of climate change and groundwater recharge as a function of drinking water extraction. The water system needs to be developed more robustly to mitigate drought vulnerability and reduce the risk of flooding.
The challenge for the area is to realise area-specific green-blue measures on (private) land so that the landscape as a whole becomes more climate robust. Or to put it another way, how can farmers be motivated to realise green-blue measures so that they can also benefit from these ecosystem services provided?
