27 JANUARY | 12:00 PM CET (06:00 AM ET): Atherosclerosis: from models to novel pharmacological treatment strategies

Prof Guido De Meyer is full professor at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, where he chairs the Physiopharmacology Research Team, an interfaculty research group that is part of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Prof De Meyer also heads the Infla-Med Research Consortium of Excellence at the University of Antwerp.  He teaches the courses in Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy.

His research focuses on the morphological and haemodynamic changes that occur during the development and rupture of atherosclerotic plaques. In this perspective, the team developed a unique mouse model of rupture of atherosclerotic plaques with clinical end points such as stroke, myocardial infarction and sudden death.  Based on solid validation of the experimental atherosclerosis models, the team has over the years conducted extensive research on the role of autophagy, apoptosis, necrosis, necroptosis, ferroptosis and neo-angiogenesis in vulnerability of atherosclerotic plaques. Moreover, the team has linked this knowledge to pharmacological manipulation of these processes to develop plaque stabilizing therapies.

During the INSPIRE webinar, Prof De Meyer will lead the audience through the highlights of many years of experimental research in the field of atherosclerosis. REGISTER NOW
