The James Joyce in Translation Centre has the following mission and objectives:
― to bring together Joyceans, whether translators, Joyce scholars or translation scholars;
― to collect all Joyce translations, in all languages, to digitize them, and to make them available to JJTC members;
― to create a database of translations, aligned with the source texts at the sentence level, uniquely suited for the development of theory on the poetics of (re)translation, both in a diachronous perspective (i.e. over time, studying subsequent retranslations) and in a synchronous comparative perspective (i.e. studying translations across languages and cultures);
― to compile a complete collection of research publications on Joyce in translation;
― to organize colloquia and conference panels on Joyce in translation;
― to disseminate knowledge on Joyce in all languages, publishing research in international collaboration between JJTC members;
― to jointly submit applications for research projects on Joyce translations;
― to become a unique platform of information and expertise on Joyce in translation, for scholars and translators alike;
― to be a virtual place for networking on Joyce translation and reception;
― to open new paths of investigation, including context and text analyses, the introduction of digital humanities and semi-automated corpus analyses, theory-building, genetics of (re)translation, and anything our members would like to develop.
