Palestine-Israel: in search of a dialogue

The war on Gaza, currently sadly extended to the wider regio, also affects the University of Antwerp and many members of our community in several ways. We strive to create a meeting place where diverse types of knowledge are taught and brought into fruitful dialogue in an open, integrative and scientifically grounded way. To foster such a dialogue, we decided to collect the available information in one location.

By bringing together this information, we want to provide transparency on university policies, in particular its relationships with Israeli institutions, consolidate contributions to public debate, highlight initiatives undertaken by students and staff, and detail the psychological and financial support available.  As such, we wish to address some of the concrete immediate needs in the fields of education, research and societal engagement. We are continuously reassessing university regulations and exploring how we can further contribute to a balanced and open approach.

We moreover want to encourage all members of our community to engage with matters of social justice and to develop academic initiatives that can contribute to mutual understanding and democratic solutions. While the page is primarily dedicated to the war on Gaza, we want to acknowledge that there are many other crises happening around the world and that by focusing on this particular situation we do not intend to thereby diminish the importance of other conflicts or the suffering of people affected elsewhere.

The information on this pages are in English, though some links may only be accessible in Dutch.

While these pages have been put together with due care, they are a work in progress.  If you have suggestions with regards to the content and wording of these pages, please contact globalengagement@uantwerpen.be

In these pages we refer to the occupied Palestinian territories as “Palestine” for reasons of conciseness.
