Middlesex University, Social Policy Research Centre, United Kingdom
Middlesex University is one of the largest universities in the UK and is located in North London. The UK team are members of the Social Policy Research Centre (SPRC), an autonomous research centre located within the University’s School of Law, and also works closely with colleagues in the School of Health and Education. Over its twenty year history, the SPRC has developed considerable expertise and a growing reputation for the provision of applied research services. It is engaged in a wide range of local, national and comparative research projects on a wide range of issue. Current research focuses on multiple and intersectional discrimination and inequalities, especially in relation to employment, access to health services and welfare provision; human security and human rights; international migration, including migration and integration policies, established and recent migrant communities and diasporas; socio-economic deprivation and local regeneration. We actively promote inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research. The Centre has successfully carried out projects for government departments, local authorities and NGOs, and, in addition, it has received funding from a range of research councils (Economic and Social Research Council, Arts and Humanities Research Council, British Academy) as well as international funding such as FP7. The SPRC has worked on several relevant studies on schooling, especially pertaining to minority ethnic and migrant groups, these have included; Polish Children in London Primary schools (commissioned by Multiverse, 2008), a related Follow-On study funded by the ESRC (2010) on Newly Arrived Migrant and Refugee Children in the British Educational System (funded by London Councils. 2010) and evaluation of supplementary education services for migrant and minority ethnic children and families.
