AGIZO is a system solution for sustainable surgical instrument management in the hospital. It consists of a circular packaging method that completely eliminates the disposable packaging. A tracing system that will check whether the set is complete by means of a control device, and a simple platform that communicates this information to the healthcare staff.
The operating roomproduces 33% of a hospital's waste. A large part of this comes from sterilization waste. Within this waste stream, we have the waste generated by the surgical instrument sets. For the UZA alone, this amounts to 1.3 tons of waste per year. An additional problem is that these surgical sets are often not complete, so that a second set has to be opened during an operation for 1 or 2 missing instruments. The whole set is then seen as dirty and must be sterilized again. This again costs water, energy and packaging material.
AGIZO is a system solution for sustainable surgical instrument management in the hospital. This solution works on multiple levels of instrument management and is applied in different departments of the hospital. It consists of a circular packaging method that completely eliminates the disposable packaging. The design of this reusable packaging supports the operation of the checking machine. Using artificial intelligence, the machine detects whether all instruments are present in the surgical set. By applying this in the operating theater as well as in the central sterilization department, a tracing system is created that guarantees the completeness of the sets. As a result, fewer sets have to be opened during surgery and less sterilization will be required in total. This information is communicated to the healthcare staff via a simple platform that also allows the different departments to communicate with each other. AGIZO therefore saves on water, energy and disposable packaging.
