Science is clear: time is running out to keep global warming below 1.5Β°C. To achieve this, we must reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero as quickly as possible worldwide. In Europe, this means cutting emissions by more than 50% by 2030 (compared to 2005) and further reducing them to net zero by 2050.
As a university, we not only have a responsibility but also the opportunity to take a leading role in this economic and societal transition. Thatβs why we have developed a climate action plan.
Our 3 core ambitions
π Understanding our impact: We assess how and where UAntwerpen contributes to climate change and develop the necessary tools to reduce our impact.
π¬ Collaboration and dialogue: Climate action is a collective effort. We foster open discussions between students, researchers, staff, and university leadership about the overarching climate strategy and sustainable initiatives.
π€ Strong partnerships: By working together with internal and external organizations and institutions, we aim to build a strong climate network in Antwerp.
