Data management and analysis - ICT, GIS remote sensing. Providing cross-cutting support across the partnership
Objectives
To create efficient ICT services at the University of Limpopo
To provide staff and students with knowledge in data management, data analysis, statistics, GIS and simulation modelling
To generate information through research in risk and vulnerability in relation to climate change using GIS, remote sensing, statistical applications and simulation modelling techniques
This is a crosscutting project which provides support for integrated ICT services, data mining and production, data management, GIS remote sensing services, spatial analysis and modelling, as well as statistical analysis for the entire VLIR-UOS programme to ensure high quality research outputs. The newly-established Risk and Vulnerability Centre (RAVAC) lies at the heart of this project. RAVAC is the result of collaborations between the University of Limpopo, the Department of Science and Technology, the NRF and the CSIR, and deals with research that relates to global change via links into international and national research and databases, as well as detailed satellite surveys of Limpopo province.
