2024-06-02 — Planned maintenance

We have scheduled a downtime for all CalcUA clusters between Tuesday July 2, 7 am, and Friday July 5, 6 pm.

This is needed to finalize changes to our storage system (firmware updates), as a follow-up measure for the emergency shutdown from May 1. We will also evaluate our emergency (disaster recovery) procedures and add extra detection systems. Furthermore, we will also perform some other maintenance tasks. And finally, we will run some tests before we release the clusters again.

During the first phase (firmware updates + emergency procedures), our filesystems will not be available. This implies that access to other VSC Tier-2 clusters will not be possible. Access to VSC Tier-1 is possible, but you will not have access to your $VSC_HOME and $VSC_DATA directories. We estimate that this first phase will not take more than 2 days.

During the second phase, the filesystems will be available again, and as such access to other VSC Tier-2 clusters should be possible again.

During this downtime, it will not be possible to submit and run jobs on our CalcUA clusters.

We will let you know when the filesystems are online again and when you can again submit jobs to the CalcUA clusters.

Our apologies for the inconvenience.

2024-03-01 — Start of accounting

From now on, you will need to select a project account when submitting jobs to the CalcUA clusters. For more information, check our Accounting @ CalcUA page.

2024-02-22 — Info session on the introduction of accounting

Starting 1 March 2024, you will need to select a project account when submitting jobs to the CalcUA clusters.

During this info session, organised on 22 February at 15h, we will explain:

  • why we are introducing accounting,
  • what this means for you and our team,
  • and what it will cost.

All active users and their supervisors have been invited to join this info session.
But if you did not receive an invitation or want to join as well, let us know.

Important things to know

  • Accounting will be introduced for both compute (jobs) and storage (files).
  • Make sure to use the appropriate project account, according to the project for which you are submitting jobs.
  • Starting 1 March, running jobs will not be possible anymore if the user does not have access to any project accounts!

Update Monday 26 February

The slides and video recording of the presentation are available (login required).
